Interreg Central Baltic project (SimE) results publication

The project that has joined three higher education institutions in the Baltic Sea Region for common work on increasing ethical competence among nursing students, has come to the final stage. The SimE(Simulation pedagogy in learning ethics in practice in health care ) Handbook and materials are published and partner universities Turku University of Applied Sciences, Riga Medical College of the University of Latvia and The Swedish Red Cross University College can look back at two-year long co-work and evaluate the results.

SimE project aimed to increase ethical competence among nursing students and prepare professionals to retain an equal and ethical capability within our health-care systems in the Central Baltic region. The aim of the project is achieved by providing a safe and effective learning environment for nursing students to practice complex ethical skills through simulation, discussion and practical training.

The results of the SimE project are three Central Baltic region compatible study courses:

  • Basic Theories of Ethics (2 ECTS)
  • Ethical Coffee Room in digital environment (1 ECTS)
  • Simulation of ethical issues (3 ECTS)

Through these educational modules Health Care students cover a spectrum of theoretical knowledge and professional capabilities. Materials and handbook is available at https://simethics.eu/
