Nordplus higher education program intensive course “Multidisciplinary approach in elderly care”

Riga Medical College of the University of Latvia, organized Nordplus higher education program intensive course Multidisciplinary approach in elderly care, held in Riga between 24.04.2017.and 28.04.2017. Nordplus MultiNEC university network combines Nordic and Baltic partners with the aim to educate and develop future health care professionals and foster students’ multidisciplinary thinking. MultiNEC network comprises the Latvian Academy of Sport Education, Latvian Association of Occupational Therapists, Lithuanian Sports University, and University of Gävle in Sweden and Satakunta University of Applies Sciences in Finland. The network is coordinated by Riga Medical College of the University of Latvia, which this year is also the organizer of the intensive course.
Intensive course design involved more than 10 academic staff members. The intensive week brought together 25 students and their teachers from different sectors – nursing, physiotherapy, massage and hydrotherapy, occupational therapy, sports science. During the intensive course participants attended lectures, workshops, study visits to elderly care facilities, workshops and intensive group work. Students have worked in multidisciplinary teams and developed individual care and rehabilitation plans for the elderly. Latvian Academy of Sports Education has set up interactive video materials for student analytical work. Upon successful participation in the intensive course, the students receive 3 ECTS.
