Widely visited SimE poject simulation and analysis event

On May 23, Riga Medical College of the University of Latvia students had the opportunity to demonstrate their medical knowledge and develop their ethical judgment skills by participating in the European Union funded project “Simulation Pedagogy in Learning Ethics in Practice in Health Care” (SimE).

The simulation is part of the commonly created ethics course. This time, a simulation scenario was chosen where the head nurse due to the problems she had at home, missed basic hygiene procedures while working with patients. During the simulation, the nursing student had to fix these gaps and remind of them the head nurse.

Simulation and analysis was led by Teija Frank, Kati Kulju, lecturers of the Turku University of Applied Sciences, Finland, and Jeļena Kuznecova, a lectutrer from  Riga Medical College of the University of Latvia.

The SimE project focuses on creating a safe and effective learning environment for nursing students to develop ethical skills through simulations and practical classes.

During the SimE project, three ethics courses will be developed and included in the curricula of all educational institutions of the partner countries. The jointly developed ethics courses and teaching methods will ensure a more harmonized level of education in the Central Baltic region, as well as a more equal level of competence of nurses working in these countries. By developing ethical skills, they will correspond to the needs of healthcare providers improving patient care.
